Bell
About the Community
The City of Bell is a “silent success” amongst its neighboring sister cities; offering more than recreational and cultural activities, Bell provides a unique experience reflective of the ethnic diversity and civic pride of its residents evidenced in its attractive residential neighborhoods, small local shops, and restaurants. Bell is a community in transition as displayed by their changing motto, once “The Key to Industry”, they are now “A Community of Families.” The city has found that its value lies in its residents choosing to remain and live in Bell . As a city showing commitment to progress, Bell has invested a great deal of effort in the improvement of the quality of life of its residents. People are attracted to the city because of this ongoing commitment and well-kept residential neighborhoods. In addition, Bell has a prominent industrial district on its northern border that lies across the 710 Freeway. Although Bell is a city physically divided by the 710 Freeway and the Los Angeles River it remains a united community.
The Bell Sustainable Community Plan
Fifty residents, business leaders, and educators met over a course of four months to discuss the future of their city. The result of the meetings was the Bell Sustainable Community Plan, a comprehensive document containing the issues and visions identified and created by the participants. But more importantly, it included the strategies to address the participant's concerns. In the development of the plan, the meetings were arranged into the following four committees: Education, Economic Development, Quality of Life, and Housing and Community Design. The meetings created a supportive environment and forum for the participants to be actively involved in civic affairs. The plan is available as a “pdf” or portable file format, document.
