About the Community

Paramount is a city that has “reinvented” itself in the past two decades, as evidenced by a revitalized commercial sector, a growing employment base, attractive new housing, spruced up neighborhoods and picturesque parks. Despite this turnaround, educational attainment and per capita income in the city continued to lag. Recognizing the vital role education plays in economic vitality, the City of Paramount, Paramount Unified School District’s Board of Education and Gateway Cities Partnership, Inc. forged a strong partnership to promote education and increased educational attainment. These groups recognized that if Paramount is to be a sustainable community, then it must become a learning community.

The Paramount Education Partnership

Over a four month period, 200 residents, business members, educators and students participated in a series of 40 focus groups that included: visioning, strategic analysis, strategic design, and implementation development. After the series of meetings, all participants described the role of Marketing, Community Organizing, Programs, Partnerships and Incentives as key to improving the community’s educational attainment with an increased value in education.
